For our August Spotlight we feature Babs Osterud, a longtime client of The Difference since it’s inception who joined our team last year as a Personal Stylist.
Tell us about lifestyle and what fills your days: I’m super busy and always on the go. My friends and family like to call me squirrel – since I am rushing from this to that. I keep active with a small farm, helping with grandkids, and working at Weight Watchers as a life coach and of course at The Difference as personal stylist.
Working and being styled at The Difference just goes to show that even when you enjoy getting dirty fixing fences or playing with animals; that you can still enjoy being stylish.
When and how did you first hear about The Difference? Cheryl and I go way back and I heard about her dream of opening The Difference while we were sharing coffee watching our toddlers play.
Describe some of your favorite things about your experience at The Difference? One of the things I learned from Cheryl is to honor the person’s inner style. Sometimes though just a little nudge can move someone out of their style comfort zone, and they see a side of their style personality that they did not know was there.
For example, when I first started being styled by Cheryl if she came near me with earrings I would run away – she gently encouraged me to try them on and suddenly my preconceived perception about earrings melted away.
Today, you will often hear me say to clients “you are here so maybe just try it on.” Typically, they are pleasantly surprised; in fact, just last week a client was skeptical about a pair of jeans I had to show her. She put them on first thinking she would eliminate them right away….well fast forward to the end of the appointment and she was wearing them home!
All this to say is sometimes you have to trust the stylist and explore new things. One thing I know is that we will never send someone out the door with something that will just hang in their closet.
Do you have a favorite outfit/product/memory associated with The Difference? Oh gosh – so so many! One of my most recent memories is the Ribkoff Trunk show and getting to try on all the elegant outfits. Ribkoff is timeless and always one of my favorites.
What’s something you’d share with women to encourage them to shop at The Difference? Shopping at The Difference is like shopping with your very best friend. Whether you pop in for a look around or an appointment with a stylist; you will leave feeling that you spent the time with a friend. A friend that supports and encourages you to look and feel amazing; regardless of stage of life or body type.
Everyone deserves to feel great and once you come in you will leave feeing empowered to be your absolute best!
