The Difference is excited to partner with Cathy Redman & Redman Wines for our deck parties this summer. Cathy has been a client at The Difference since she worked in bank management in the ‘80s. Over the years, Cathy’s lifestyle changed and as she retired her classic suits, The Difference kept up with her needs. “They take care of me. I always find what I’m looking for and there is no wasted clothing. They tell the truth. I love orange, but evidently, it doesn’t love me! I’m always thrilled walking out. First, it was just clothing, but now makeup, shoes—the whole package.”
Cathy’s journey to Redman Wines started by attending wine tasting events and classes that sparked Cathy, and her late husband Bill’s, interest and provided inspiration for purchasing land in 2004, 6 miles west of Newberg on Ribbon Ridge Road, with full intent to plant a vineyard. There was one small problem—1,300 Hazel nut trees. Well past their prime, the trees needed to be removed so that’s just what they did! 2008 was their first harvest—all Pinot Noir. They received 90 points from Wine Advocate which is amazing for their first harvest. Bill was diagnosed with cancer shortly thereafter and sadly, he passed away in 2009.
Cathy reflects on the time after Bill’s death. “We had been involved in the wine community since 1985. They wrapped their arms around me. They knew our purpose and dream.” Cathy has continued to expand on that dream and what started with 5 acres is now 22. The winery and tasting room are also on the property and they sell directly from there. The selections have expanded beyond Pinot Noir including Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Arneis.
Through the years, Cathy’s had the support of The Difference too. Cathy feels The Difference does it better than any other retailer because “they are not just there to sell merchandise. It’s a different feel because of this. The atmosphere is friendly and everyone knows my name. They are caring and sincere. It’s the only place I shop.
