Our May Style Spotlight features client of our Lake Oswego store, Brooke Van Vleet. Stumbling across The Difference after reading an article in the Oregonian, Brooke talks about the value The Difference team brings to her life – consulting and helping women of all ages (and stages) look and feel their best.
Tell us about your current lifestyle and profession:
I’m a busy executive by day, an empty nester, and love to cook, enjoy new restaurants, be outdoors and travel with my soon-to-be husband! We just got engaged over the holidays and are planning a special tropical elopement soon (of course with several perfect ensembles packed after consulting with Kirsti!)
How did you hear about The Difference?
Long ago I remember an article in the Oregonian where Cheryl was interviewed about best colors, and how long she had been in business. I had just had my second daughter and was about to return to work and my wardrobe was in need of a big update. I picked up the phone, and the rest was history!
Describe some of your favorite things about your Stylist and working with The Difference?
Kirsti has always respected my opinion but is fabulous about pushing me to try things just outside my comfort zone – and she is usually spot on with her ideas! My style has changed over the years, and I’ve been able to update old favorites with new pieces, shoes and jewelry. As work has become more casual, I love that much of my wardrobe can do double duty for elevated play as well as the office.
I remember once Kirsti suggested that investing in accessories to finish off an outfit is such an important piece of the puzzle! That has stuck with me, as has her insistence I give brow ink a try – it’s a staple in my makeup bag to this day.
We used to have events in Lake Oswego where each stylist had a couple clients participate as models and then shop as a small group after our “runway show.” The Difference feels like a small community, and I love that everyone authentically wants to build a relationship with you, not just complete a one time sale or transaction.
You’ve been a client of The Difference for more than 20 years. Any special memories? What about favorite products?
I’ve enjoyed coming across people in my personal and professional life who also shop at the Difference – it’s like our own sorority of women who have made similar relationships over the years.
My favorite skin care product right now would have to be the Cleansing Milk face wash. Love how gentle and nourishing it is! Favorite apparel right now has to be my Tamaris sneakers – I have both the black and taupe. Love how they elevate my jeans and can get me through the airport or across town in style!
What’s something you’d share with women to encourage them to partner with The Difference?
I mentioned to Kirsti recently something about “as I age I feel like certain elements of my style are evolving.” She quickly adapted the word “age” to “stage” and we had a great conversation about all the life changes I’ve gone through and are still ahead. I think that’s the greatest value The Difference and their amazing team provides – consultation and advice to help women of ALL ages look and feel their best!
